Cherokee Central Schools system currently consists of two main sites. The Elementary site houses kindergarten through sixth grade and was constructed in the 1960s. The High School site was constructed in the 1970s and houses seventh grade through twelfth grade. In September 2009 the doors will open to what has been called the "cadillac" of schools. Our new school complex will house K-12 , administration, technology and facilities. The new building will incorporate the very latest in technology, security and safety.
Although this complex will house the very best of 21st century technology respect for our Cherokee heritage and the land will be central to our curriculum. Native plants will surround the school building. Special areas are designated for pottery making , basket weaving, wood carving and beading. Open air construction will bring the beauty of the mountains inside all year around.
Below are some of the architects renderings from 2004 and 2005 and some of the onsite pictures of the new construction.
