Although Cherokee Middle School is housed within the Cherokee High School building, it remains a separate and unique educational facility. The Middle School is accredited by the state of North Carolina and also follows the mandates of the Office of Indian Education. Cherokee Middle School is a NASA Explorer school. The Middle School is also active in sports, literary projects such as the TSA LA GI HI GO HI newsletter, the Globe project and many other activities as well. Middle School staff are very interested in the education of Cherokee students and work to promote cultural activities within the curriculum. NASA Explorer NewsParents, teachers and students got rocked in our first Space Night. CMS campus was surrounded by hands-on space stations. These stations included: stomp rockets, Mentos-Coke explosions, Lego Robots, slime, balloon rockets.... Our first "Great Rocket Launch" was a soaring success! Two hundred 5-8th grade students participated in designing and launching their own handcrafted rockets. The students assessed the impact of wind speed, direction and engine size on the angle and altitude of each launch.... Beta Club NewsJunior Beta Convention News: Greensboro 2007 NC State Winners:
Our club won the 1st place trophy in the Art category! LEGO League News:January 20, 2007 was the First LEGO League competition at SCC. The Brave Nanos won 1st in teamwork, 1st in robot performance, and 1st in presentation/skit. Congratulations Mr. West, Wolfe, Arnold, Cook, Lambert and Miss Arch! We couldn't be more proud of our students.

Current EventsOct. 19: "Dangers of the Internet," a presentation from the FBI 1pm-3pm. We are proud of our teachers who presented at the WNCednet Technology Awareness Conference. R.L. Taylor, Scott Freeman, Bette Fitzgerald and Carol West did an amazing job demostrating LEGO robotics and using NASA resources in the classroom. |
