Happy Summer!! This year seems to have come and gone so quickly! Looking back, it is amazing to see what all the students have accomplished this year. The last 9 weeks of the year in Horizons is always “touch and go.” There are many field trips, awards, testing, and celebrations that sometimes interfere with the time we have with the students. Nonetheless, this last nine weeks was mostly devoted to the students researching their individual interests in both independent studies and group work. It is one of the most fun times for us as teachers, and it is one of the most anticipated times for the students.
3rd and 4th grades worked on group projects. 3rd grade group projects were:
4th grade group projects were:
5th and 6th grades worked on individual projects and presentations. Some of the topics included the Olympics, potatoes, spies, knights in armor, Russia, Zeus, Jerusalem, green sea turtles, raptors, beagles, the Beatles, Titanic, Shakespeare, Walt Disney, and chocolate.
1st and 2nd grades ended the year with literature/project studies and math manipulative centers:
“Smart Game Night” was held for the first time this year. It was a huge success. Parents and family members more than filled the classroom. There was laughter, playing, competition and much “thinking”J going on that night. Thanks to all who participated. It was a blast!!!
Our 3rd Annual Parent Celebration Night was held May 18, 2006. We had over 40 parents and family members attend. They were treated to a “Year in Review” presented in power point (pictures). Refreshments were served as parents and family members visited and viewed the projects from throughout the year. It was a nice ending to a productive school year.
We wish you and your family an enjoyable, restful summer. We look forward to having your child again in the 2006-2007 school year. We have a new habitat planned to study as well as other adventures in learning.
Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

games.
There are 2 focus centers each month. The centers for March are talking globes, maps, and windsocks (art).
Each teacher is given coupons to send children of their choice to participate for one hour with their grade block. Horizons offers All students an opportunity to work in their area of interest or strength.
We are here to learn more about ourselves, other people and the world we live in. In order to do our best to learn we will be responsible, respectful, truthful, caring & safe.
