Si-yo!
As summer vacation begins, we're sure you are all enjoying sleeping in each morning! After the children's last day, Mrs. Lossiah and I worked the following week to clean up and reorganize our classroom. The echoes of the children's laughter, chatter, and antics brought a flood of memories and caused us to laugh often!
We hope you will all have a very happy and safe summer vacation. Please continue to have your child read everyday for at least 15 minutes. IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT THEY KEEP THEIR READING SKILLS FRESH! It can be a very special time between your child and you to read aloud to each other and rainy, summer days are a great time to share your love of reading.
Mrs. Lossiah is interested in having craftspeople
come into our classroom next year to demonstrate their art to our children and, hopefully, have the children complete a small project of their own. We were very fortunate this year to have Betty Maney come to our class at the very end of the year to demonstrate basket-making. She also provided enough materials for each child to complete a small basket of his/her own. THANK YOU, BETTY! So, if you are a craftsperson or know one who might be willing to demonstrate a cultural craft during next school year, please let us know.
Please help your child continue with the Cherokee language they have learned this past year. Just by asking what the Cherokee word is for animals, food, clothing, family, etc. in your everyday activities will strengthen their (and your!) Cherokee vocabulary.
We would like to thank all those of you who so generously contributed to our 3rd grade dialysis fund and supported our class this past year in so many other ways. Bless you!
Sgi!
Ms. Nicholas
Mrs. Lossiah
We would like to congratulate once again all of those who received an award at the Award Assembly!
The Sacred Path program is a character education program developed to promote caring, responsibility, and respect for self and others while following traditional tribal beliefs. Each grade level meets to discuss issues that need to be addressed within the grade block and the school. Together they determine solutions to any problems that are addressed and work together to solve those problems. Students and teachers work together on the Sacred Path to make the school a safe place to learn.
Dear Parents! Try to keep your child's math skills sharp this summer by: Asking them the time, having them make change at the store, reading the thermometer to tell the temperature, adding the cost of things you purchase, etc. Try to incorporate and involve your child in just how much we need to use math in real life!
